Training and Development

At Okland, we are committed to investing our best efforts to develop our field talent. Field engineers can develop their skills to facilitate their growth along the path towards superintendent. Initially, you will participate in a hands-on, 5-day training that helps you hone your communication, teamwork, and leadership skills while also gaining experience in differential leveling, site control training, personal organization, and scrum scheduling. Over the following two months, you also participate in online trainings to broaden your development and skills.

We are dedicated to fostering growth for our project engineers, field engineers, and preconstruction team members. Participants are invited to an immersive, 2-day summit that offers training and support on relevant topics such as BIM, Procore coordination, RFIs, submittals, procurement, quality control, etc. Team building activities provide an opportunity for you to build camaraderie, hone leadership skills, and learn best practices.

Our PM retreat is a comprehensive, multi-day training program that integrates all aspects of project management. Project Managers are provided with hands-on trainings to improve their organization and efficiency skills as well as opportunities to practice real life leadership skills, helping them lead their people and build confidence with trades and clients. These retreats provide connection and camaraderie across projects and creates shared success among our team members.

Okland provides a comprehensive library of virtual learning and training programs accessible anytime from anywhere, allowing team members to enhance their skills and knowledge to support career development. We also offer several in-person trainings throughout the year to help build our team members’ skillsets.

We pair team members with experienced mentors who can guide, inspire, and assist them in their career aspirations. Our mentorship programs foster an environment of support and development.

Internships

As an Okland intern, you know you are a valuable part of the team from day one. We are committed to cultivating a proactive culture of doers, and we integrate our interns into this dynamic by challenging them with meaningful tasks and genuine responsibilities. You’ll have the advantage of dedicated, one-on-one mentors who offer personalized guidance as you navigate the ins and outs of the industry. Our competitive internships are offered in the spring, summer and winter semesters, and over 1/3 of our interns are offered full time employment.

Scholarships

We believe in the transformative power of education, and we offer a variety of scholarships to foster growth in our team members and their families.

The Okland Women in Construction Scholarship is available to women enrolled in a U.S. educational institution who will begin either their sophomore or junior year of an accredited construction management program or a related field. A $5,000 tuition will be awarded to two students who meet the required criteria. Winners will also receive a paid summer internship at Okland, where they will be paired with an Okland mentor who will serve as a resource during the internship and ensuing academic year.

Our desire to diversify our workforce extends to our next generation of construction management professionals. The Okland Diversity Scholarship is available to underrepresented minority students enrolled at a U.S. educational institution who will begin either their sophomore or junior year of an accredited construction management program or related field. Underrepresented minority students include any student who has at least one birth parent who is a member of one of the following minority groups: Black/African American, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian, Native Hawaiian, Asian American, and/or Pacific Islander. A $5,000 tuition scholarship will be awarded to two students who meet the required criteria and standards. Winners will also receive a paid summer internship with Okland, during which they will be paired with an Okland mentor who will serve as a resource during the internship and ensuing academic year.

The Okland First Generation Scholarship aims to support the educational endeavors of our craft team members’ children who are the first generation in their family to attend college. The scholarship awards exceptional students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and are the dependent of an craft team member who has been employed with Okland for at least three years.  Recipients receive a one-time scholarship award of $2,500 or $1,000 for tuition to an accredited two- or four-year college or university. Scholarships may be renewed from year to year.
